چکیده

The Western Wind and Solar Integration Study Phase 1 (WWSIS1) investigated the impacts of high penetrations of wind and solar power on the Western Interconnection of the United States. The Western Wind and Solar Integration Study Phase 2 (WWSIS2) built on Phase 1 but with far greater refinement in the level of data inputs and production simulation. It considered the differences between wind and solar power on systems operations. It considered mitigation options to accommodate wind and solar when full costs of wear and tear and full impacts of emissions rates are taken into account. It determined wear-and-tear costs and emissions impacts. New data sets were created for WWSIS2, and WWSIS1 data sets were refined to improve realism of plant output and forecasts. Four scenarios were defined for WWSIS2 that examined the differences between wind and solar and penetration level. Transmission was built out to bring resources to load. Statistical analysis was conducted to investigate wind and solar impacts at timescales ranging from seasonal down to 5 min. Keywords-wind; solar; integration; transmission; statistical analysis; production simulation; wear and tear; emissions

Creating the Dataset for the Western Wind and Solar Integration Study (U.S.A.)

The Western Wind and Solar Integration Study (WWSIS) is one of the world’s largest regional integration studies to date. This paper discusses the creation of the wind dataset that will be the basis for assessing the operating impacts and mitigation options due to the variability and uncertainty of wind power on the utility grids. The dataset is based on output from a mesoscale numerical weather...

Economic assessment of renewable power generation based on wind speed and solar radiation in urban regions

Economic evaluation of 12 MW grid-connected wind farms and PV power plants in two regions in Northern Cyprus for electricity generation was investigated. The wind speed, sunshine duration, and solar global radiation characteristics were analyzed using monthly data collected over 17 years (2000-2016) for Girne and nine years (2008-2016) for Lefkoşa, which were measured at various heights. The re...

Statistical study of the equatorial F2 layer critical frequency at Ouagadougou during solar cycles 20, 21 and 22, using Legrand and Simon's classification of geomagnetic activity

This paper presents the statistical analysis of the diurnal variations of the F layer at the equatorial station of Ouagadougou (Lat: 12.4 N; Long: 358.5 E; dip: 5.9 ) from 1966 to 1998 (=> ~11 680 days). We consider three main factors of variability: (1) the season (spring, summer, autumn and winter), (2) the phase of the sunspot cycle (ascending, maximum, descending and minimum) and (3) the ge...
